                Pilot-scale production line of carbonized steel slag building materials products

The carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology is considered to be one of the most promising mitigation technologies due to the large amount of carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming. With the rapid development of China's industrialization, the production and accumulation of various kinds of waste are increasing year by year.The utilization rate of some wastes is very low, such as steel slag, because it contains more free magnesium oxide and free calcium oxide, the stability is very poor and the volume expands with water, resulting in its actual utilization rate is less than 10%.

In view of the problems of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide emissions and the low utilization of steel slag, Prof. Xin Cheng cooperated with Jinan Iron & Steel Group, developed carbonized steel slag technology and trial-produced a variety of steel slag building materials products, including carbonized steel slag aggregate, carbonized steel slag - paper sludge plate and carbonized steel slag brick, etc., and built a pilot - scale production line of carbonized steel slag building materials products in Jinan Baode Luliao Co., Ltd.. The research direction hosts a number of national, provincial and ministerial scientific projects such as National Science and Technology Support Program Projects and National Natural Science Foundation of China.
